Aveda Walk for Water

For the second year running the Aveda network will participate in a global initiative that acknowledges the daily struggle of more than one billion people worldwide who do not have access to clean water.

Aveda Walk for Water campaign unites participants in a series of walks around the world to raise awareness of and funds for the need to protect clean water. Executed locally by Aveda distribution, salons, spas, stores and institutes, the walk will raise funds for local organizations working to protect clean water. The 6km course is to honour the women in developing nations who walk an average of this distance each day to collect clean drinking water for their families.

As a company renown for sourcing organic products and engaging in sustainable practice (in April 09 they were the first beauty company in the world to receive a Cradle to Cradle sustainability endorsement), Aveda’s commitment to this cause is an extension of the brands core values. The brands that have gained the most credibility in the eyes of the consumer from aligning themselves with a charity, are those which chose a partnership reflecting their own philosophy. Think Levi’s® with AIDS, Ronald McDonald House with families of ill kids or more recently Target with Breast Cancer (Fashion Targets Breast Cancer).

The Aveda Walk for Water will be held during the week of Earth Day – 22 April 2010. See more on last years’ Walk for Water campaign in the video below.
